What do I know to be true?

May 8, 2008

One thing and one person, that I honestly know that is true is God and my religion. I truly believe that God and Jesus existed and still exist in our hearts. I believe that God created us out of his own image and that he loves us very much. His love for us is very great that he even sacrificed his own son for us. Not only did God do this but also his son, Jesus, and the mother of his son, Mother Mary. All of them sacrificed something for all of us. God is someone that we saw first and I believe that he will be the last person that we see before we enter the other life. I also believe, as God said, that the end is only the beginning. We have a lot more to overcome even in the next life.

My religion is also something that I believe to be true. It has been around for decades and is still going strong today. I believe that it is here to help not only me, but everyone in life. I believe that it will guide us to the right pathway and that it will take us to happiness.

What do I need from my parents?

April 24, 2008

My mom has given me so much and now that I have to think about something that I need from her, it’s really hard. I think that my mom has been the best mom in the whole world and I don’t think I can ask for more. Leaving the material things out of the picture, I think what I need from my parents is time. I think that it is something that every kid needs besides love and affection. I can say that my mom is not always there when we have school functions but even though this happens, I understand her. She works really hard for my siblings and I and I am very proud of her. She tries her best to attend any events that we have along with all the work she has to do. Time maybe something that my mom doesn’t often give me, but I know that she supports me the whole way. Even though my mom, sometimes, doesn’t have time to attend events, I don’t really get mad at her because I have my siblings who support me. And even though we don’t spend a lot of time together, I still love my mom very much and that will never change.

What do I want to learn from my culture?

April 24, 2008

My culture is a very important part of my life. It helps me understand who I am. The art, music, and dance are probably three aspects of my culture that I want to learn more about. I would like to find out about many artists and painters. I want to know what inspired them to create such an amazing masterpiece. I want to know where, when (at what age), and how they started. I also want to know if it is genetic or if it is just a talent or hobby that they have always done since they were a child. I want to know if their painting or even their music tells a story behind it.

Music has played a pig role in my life and it is definitely something I would want know more about. Filipino music is wonderful. I want to know where it originated from or who influenced the Filipinos to form our own music. I want to know about different musicians who play or compose different genres of music. And at the same time, I would also want to learn about a genre that would interest me. Filipino dance is also very interesting. I know that we have different kinds of dances but I also want to know more. Such as who choreographed it or who made it up. I also want to know things such as what does it represent or what does it mean? Is it danced in different kinds of events or can it be danced anywhere?

Success? What does it really mean?

April 12, 2008

For other people, success is being the richest person alive. For them, success means that you are the best person. In my opinion, success is when you have learned from your mistakes and made something out of it. it means getting everything correct each and everyday of your life.  Just like my teacher taught me, reflecting on everything that you do. Thinking about each and everything and asking yourself if you did that best you can and doing it even better the day after the next. This is how you become successful. Now, don’t get me wrong, i am not saying that being the richest girl alive is not successful, it is, but being also who you want to be and knowing that you did it by reflecting is being successful.

All about my culture!

April 8, 2008

I came from the Philippines. My culture has a lot to it and it is very interesting. Our food is very much famous around the world. I would most definitely put this aspect of my culture in a box. We have different kinds of food and it is usually served with steamed rice. Dishes from the Philippines such as adobo, nilaga, sinigang, kare-kare, tusino, longganisa, beef steak, afritada, menudo, bulalo are the best!

Our clothing is pretty much modernized in the preent time, but before it was really simple but elegant. Females wore a type of clothing called “Baro’t Saya,” while the males wore “Barong Tagalog.” The Baro’t Saya is a long dress (any color) topped with a blouse decorated with sequins. The Barong Tagalog is just a plain long-sleeves decorated with different patterns of stitches. The Barong Tagalog is also usually worn in weddings by the male.

Our language is pretty easy to understand. We g0t most of words from the Spanish language. They’re both similar. We say words like “lib-ro” and “la-pis,” which means book and pencil. My friends always tells me that when I talk in tagalog, I sound completely different. I think it’s because I pronounce it way different than how they do.

Reflective blog on the Outsiders project!

December 18, 2007

The Outsiders project was really interesting. We worked in groups to accomplish our tasks. Our task was to make a presentation (any kind) regarding the topics that was given to as. These topics describe the novel the “Outsiders.” My group accomplished our task but we had a hard time doing so. Due to technical problems, my group and I had a difficult time sending each other our parts on this project. At some point on this project, my group and I also had a misunderstanding regarding who’s doing which. We all got confused about it but we worked it out. We also tried our best to talk to each other whenever we could and we did. We emailed each other and we kept each other informed on whether we were done or not or at what point we are on the project.

Overall, if I were to rank this project from one to ten, I would give it an eight. It wasn’t the best but it wasn’t also the worst. This project made me learn more about teamwork. It made me realize that working as a team is not about bossing people around. It’s about being a leader and listening to other suggestions. If I were given another chance to do this project, I would probably make sure everything is clear between my group and
I. I would also start on it earlier because I learned that “due date are closer than we think.”

I think that my group did a good job in the whole teamwork thing. We tried our best and our best were good enough. We accomplished our task and the best part is that WE DID IT TOGETHER!

The Outsiders: Chapters 11&12

November 16, 2007

Survival

               above: Ponyboy

For these chapters, i chose the word survival. I picked this word because not only is it the last word but it is also the one word that fits it well. Even though Johnny and Dally didn’t survive, the rest of the gang did. They survived not only the rumble but Ponyboy also survived from his illness. He fainted and was sick for atleast three days, but he survived which is why i picked the word survival. The ending of this book was the three, Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy, getting along and agreeing not to fight about unecessary things. Overall, i really liked this book. It had alot of exciting parts in it. When i was reading it, i felt like i was there with them.

The Outsiders:Chapters 9&10

November 12, 2007

  ”FEAR”

The word that i think that has the closest relevance to chapters 9 and 10 is FEAR! I picked this word because i saw parts in the chapters where many characters showed fearness. One example was when Johnny died. I could tell that Dally and Johnny were really scared for him. Another time was when Dally was shot. All the members of the gang were scared for him. For me, fear is a very strong word. It describes a feeling that a person feels for a certain reason or a certain happening. For me personally, fear is something that i never want to feel.

The Outsiders: Ch. 7/8: Friendship

November 8, 2007

                                                                         Friendship

The word that I chose for this lesson is friendship. The reason I chose this word is because these two chapters were basically about being and friend and becoming a friend. When Ponyboy got home he went straight to sleep. As soon as he woke up, he made breakfast for everyone. After, Ponyboy and Two-Bith went back to the hospital to visit Johnny and Dally. Dally was alright but Johnny was in a critical condition. They brought Johnny and Dally all their favorite things to make them happy. They were a good friend to each other. They supported each other through everything. This was an example of being a friend. An example of becoming a friend was when Randy, a socs, and Ponyboy, a greaser, became friends. They saw each other by a restaurant and Randy called Pony. He told him that he’s not made at Johnny for killing his (Randy) best friend, Bob. They had a chat and they became friends which show that these chapters were about friendship.

The Outsiders: Chapters 5&6

November 5, 2007

The word I think that best fits these two chapters is heroism. I picked this word out of the four other words because it is i think that it is the best word that describes all that happened in these two chapters. For example, when Ponyboy and Johnny risked their lives to save five kids inside a burning church. They knew that there was a big possibility that they could die but they still did it. Also, the part where Dally ran and saved Johnny when he got hit by the ceiling. Ponyboy had a broken arm and it was burned but not as much while Johnny suffered a broken and severely burned back. Dally had a burned arm because of his attempt to get johnny out of the church. All these things that they did showed heroism.
